Vertical Search, We Hardly Knew Ye

I've been using and writing about vertical search for years, but I am in the distinct minority. Hardly anyone else uses it and almost no one writes about it any more. With the appearance of Wolfram|Apha and Google Squared, I am starting to wonder if the time for vertical search has come and gone without it ever really being here.
